EMMA’s experts

 

EMMA runs a number of Expert Groups tackling urgent issues that go to the heart of publishing businesses such as copyright, VAT and digital-related issues.

MMA Experts:

Legal Affairs Committee, chaired by Dr. Christoph Fiedler,  Managing Director for European Affairs and Media Policy at VDZ, which is the top organization of German Magazine Publishers and their online offers. Christoph also teaches media law at the universities of Leipzig and Düsseldorf.

 

 

Publishing and Advertising Committee, chaired by Mark Burr, Head of Public Affairs at PPA. Mark leads on the PPA’s government affairs, regulatory and legal work in the UK and EU. He is also a member of the CLA’s License Development Committee.

 

 

Copyright Task Force, chaired by Mark Millar, Company Secretary and Head of Legal Affairs of Future plc (International special-interest media group listed on the London Stock Exchange). Mark is also Chairman of the Publishers Licensing Society and a Director of The  Licensing Agency Limited (CLA).

 

 

Publishing Online Group, chaired by Claudio Giua, Development and Innovation director of Gruppo Editoriale l’Espresso. Claudio is president of Premium Publisher Network, the consortium of the Italian Publishers for the contextual adv; digital advisor of Fieg (the Italian dailies and magazines Publishers Federation); president of Fondazione Sistema Toscana. As a journalist, he headed the political desk of la Repubblica and four local newspapers in Veneto and Tuscany. 

 

Sustainability Committee, chaired by Florian Nehm, the Head of Corporate Sustainability and EU Government Affairs of Axel Springer AG, one of Europe’s leading multimedia corporations, headquartered in Berlin. Florian began his career as a journalist at DIE WELT and he earned his MSc in Economics at the Colorado State University after studying agriculture in Chile and Germany.

 

VAT Task Force, chaired by Marianne Berard-Quelin, chairman and CEO, editor in chief, of Société Générale de Presse (a french BtoB press company). Marianne is also vice president of the French Federation of the specialised Press (FNPS – Fédération nationalede la presse d’information spécialisée) and chairman of its Committee for the Europeanaffairs. 

 

Corporate Advisory Group, chaired by Patrick de Borchgrave, Director External Relations at Roularta Media Group, President of Ppress (Belgian federation of magazines) and President of CIM (Centre d’Information sur les Médias).

 

 

The Expert Groups, made up of relevant experts representing Europe’s magazine media, have become a valued forum for members. They allow members to improve their knowledge of relevant developments at EU-level, and also provide an opportunity for useful exchanges of information regarding national activities.

Our experts also provide vital insights into the current challenges and opportunities for magazine media businesses and how proposed rules could impact their businesses. This important input has contributed to the development of a constructive dialogue with EU policy and decision makers.
