Job opening at EMMA: Communications Officer

EMMA is a non-profit organization representing over 15.000 magazine publishers throughout Europe publishing over 50.000 titles, reaching on average 80% of European adults. 300 million Europeans read magazines on a regular, consistent basis. EMMA is currently looking for a communications officer to join the EMMA team in our Brussels office. This is a full-time position (38 hours/week). The candidate would provide material support to the communications activities of EMMA as well as EMMA’s think tank initiative, the Future Media Lab. (more information on the Future Media Lab. is available at www.futuremedialab.info).


  • Updating and developing the EMMA and Future Media Lab. websites and other social media tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, blog etc.
  • Designing communication materials for both internal and external communications (newsletters, post-conference reports, powerpoints, leaflets, brochures).
  • Assisting in the development of promotional materials for EMMA/Future Media Lab. events and other activities (banner ads, invitations, posters, roll-ups etc.).
  • Supporting the Communications Manager in developing new communication activities (video interviews, infographics, newsletters, etc.).
  • Writing news releases, assembling the weekly newsletter, and assisting in other written communications directed to internal and external audiences.


  • Candidates should have excellent English language skills and very good written and verbal communication skills; the knowledge of one other EU language would be an asset.
  • Advanced user of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects or other video editing software is a plus (particularly experience in producing infographic videos).
  • Knowledgeable in HTML. Experience with Adobe Business Catalyst CMS is an asset.
  • Experience in communications or journalism as well as a basic understanding of the EU.
  • Experience in creating infographics to illustrate statistics and facts and figures in an eye-catching way.
  • The candidate should be self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work efficiently and autonomously.
  • They should have strong planning, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • The person should be an excellent team-player and have a demonstrated interested in media innovation and media policy and should enjoy thinking “outside the box”.

This position is full-time as from mid-June 2016. The working language of EMMA is English.
